It’s not like I know well or make plans thoroughly for my body. It is my body that tells me what to do.
Take the shoulders for example, they will never get better if I didn’t fix my upper back. And I wouldn’t know that my upper back could be fixed if it wasn’t for those core contractions that surprisingly happened one day after an incredibly amazing forward bending, which had been triggered by my millions of bridges and downward-facing dogs during the past ten years.
Everything is connected. The shoulders, the back, the belly, the legs. Also the muscles, the bones, the vessels, and the joints.
If yoga has taught me anything, it’s that my body is a sacred temple and full of wonders. It deserves my respect and attention. It surprises me and redirects me constantly in its own way so I get to stay on the right track before I notice any differences.
If you ask me, I would say that taking good care of the body is the best investment in life. I give it some time, and it pays me back handsomely, not only physically, but also mentally. Now I am very generous to my body and I always listen to what it says to me.
Every time I achieve a new pose which I’ve been trying to do for years, I know once again I am one step closer to where I need to be. That feels really great and that is the first thing I’d like to share with you when it comes to yoga.■
